research into japanese war crimes trials
This work-in-progress website hosts findings from my archival research at The National Archives (TNA UK) on war crimes conducted in British Malaya and British Borneo during the Japanese Occupation from December 1941 to September 1945. The primary impetus for this research is to excavate civilian experiences, so sorely lacking from historiography of the Asia-Pacific War, and to disseminate the stories of the many nameless who fell victim to war crimes. However, it also aims to acknowledge and recognise the individuals who were caught up in this historical tragedy.
Can you help?
Do you know any of the individuals named in any of these trials? Perhaps you are acquainted with them or you are a relative? If you would like for their story to be known, I would appreciate if you would get in touch with me. You can contact me using the form below.
Information on this website
To date (August 2017), I have documented case numbers 813 to 1039 in the WO235 collection. But the process of extracting information from each case and uploading the details to this website is necessarily and unavoidably slow. So, please do visit again to catch up on updates, or 'like' my Facebook page or 'follow' my Twitter feed to be kept abreast of new uploads.
